Introduction:
The funeral has 3 purposes:
- To call attention to the many lives (Black, White, disabled, those with mental illness, etc.) lost due to police brutality
- To provide a safe way for ALL people to participate in a protest , safe in their cars, social distanced, etc.
- To provide a way for the elderly or sickly to participate in protest by riding in their cars or posting on social media and not having to walk or stand.
- After the procession has arrived at the “funeral” location, people can choose to end their protest and drive home or park and join the public funeral at the specified location. Or you can follow the event online and post about the event on social media
Each hearse will have the name of someone killed by police written on a poster on either side of the hearse. For example a poster with George Floyd will be taped to the passenger side left window and a poster with the name of Trayvon Martin will be taped to the passenger side right window. 2 names per hearse. All cars participating will have the freedom to decorate their cars with 1 or more names of people they want to honor who have been killed by the police. The suggestion is to make a poster of the person’s name and tape it to both passenger side windows so as to not obstruct the view while driving. Posters/lettering should be big enough for people to SEE the names of the deceased as we drive by.
